Route information

There are two routes to reach Bangalore – Hassan high way, one way through Magadi and the other route is via Nelamangala. The stretch via Magadi to reach the highway is a smooth road to drive.

A fork is encountered on the Bangalore Hassan highway. The road leading straight reaches Sakleshpura and a right at the same fork touches Hassan.

Eateries
There are not many places to eat once we cross Bangalore until the turn towards Chennarayapatna. A Kamat upachar restaurant is available. Also there are small bakeries and tea shops at Chennarayapatna.
Fuel
There are many petrol bunks all along the route till Sakleshpura. They are either HP or Indian Oil and once we cross Bangalore there is less likely hood of them accepting Credit or Debit cards.
Shopping
On the highway one can shop for artifacts made of rubber tree trunks which vary from Rs 100-250.
On the way to Sakleshpura, just at the outskirts there is a dry fruits shop run by Tata Company. Do make sure to stop there to buy dry fruits, tea and spices. Prices here are reasonably less compared to anywhere around the region.
Sringeri – Agumbe road
There are multiple homestays available on this stretch. Some of the popular ones reachable by main road are Shantikunj homestay and Keremane homestay.
Also try out Neeru dosa on this stretch as one may not get this after crossing Agumbe.
Try and cover Sirimane falls before reaching Agumbe while travelling from Mudigere to Sringeri.
Pooja in the temple closes by afternoon and starts again after 5.30, however the temple is always open.
Agumbe
Reach Agumbe well before sunset to ensure to get a vantage point at the view point and also to ensure to get a secure parking space for the car.
Accommodation
Stay options are available at Agumbe town, one is the Doddamane run by Kasturi Akka and the other option is a lodge right opposite to the Agumbe KSRTC bus stand.
Places of interest
There are multiple waterfalls around Agumbe like Jogi gundi, Barkhana, Onake abbi and Kudla theertha. Kundadri hills is the place to watch sunrise while staying at Agumbe.
Barkhana waterfalls: This requires a walk into the forest for about a kilometer or more. The path to reach the falls is not an easy one to find and would require a guide. It is quite easy to get lost if the path is not well known. One cannot reach the waterfall but enjoy it from a view point.
Jogi Gundi falls: Requires a small trek inside the forest. Its not easy to get under the waterfall the water is quite deep. It can be leech infected and slippery during monsoon.
Onake abbi falls: Heard from the locals that this is one peculiar waterfall which is viewed from the top and cannot be reached.
Kundadri hills: It is the best place to watch sunrise from Agumbe. Autos can be arranged for Rs 350 but its an easy and scenic drive if one has their private vehicle. Try and leave Agumbe well before 5.30 to ensure a right place on top of the hill and to witness the sunrise from beginning. The road to the hill is a bit tricky and would need cautious driving. On the way to Kundadri hill, one can find a village by name Handalsa. This is the place where the actual shooting of Malgudi days was done. Try and visit this place on the way back from Kundadri hills.
Kodachadri
Reaching Kodachadri
Shared jeeps are available from Kollur and Nittur to reach Kodachadri. Its easier to get jeeps from Kollur. The Jeep stand is in front of one Adiga hotel. The other landmark is the Kollur police station. Lunch at Adiga Hotel is quite tasty, in case there is enough time and reach kollur well in advance lunch can be taken at the temple which is served till 2 in the noon.
Shared jeeps charge Rs 200 per person to reach Kodachadri and its better to find a group of 8 which is the minimum number required. In case there are more than 8 in your group and you are ready to adjust then you can hire the entire jeep. The jeep drops the group at Kodachadri and waits to take you back in case you can come back within an hour.
Accommodation
There is  a PWD guest house at Kodachadri which can provide accommodation. Also the matt premises can provide accommodation and food. If it’s a group of girls then it might be difficult to find accommodation in the matt premises.
Eateries
There are couple of options to have breakfast and snacks as well. The temple or the matt also provide food at a nominal price of Rs 50.
In case one decides to camp at Kodachadri, they can camp either at the peak or near the matt based on the comfort level but ensure to take the earliest jeeps, the ones before 9 otherwise would have to wait for one hour and these jeeps charge an extra 200 to take you back.
Kundapura
Try Butter Masala dosa at Harsha refreshments at Hotel Sharon near the circle touching the coastal highway. Other delicacies available at Harsha refreshments are Goli baje, Neer dosa which are available from morning 8 and from 4.30 in the evening.
Try the Gadbad at Prabhu’s ice cream parlor near the same hotel.
Marvanthe
There are not many options to stay at Marvanthe beach or Trasi. The budget accommodations available are quite far from Marvanthe beach and not easily accessible. The only fancy and good accommodation is Turtle Bay beach resort. However there are not many options to eat at this resort.
The stretch of road between Kundapur and Marvanthe doesn’t appear like a coastal highway but it improves after crossing Marvanthe.
Gokarna, Om Beach and Kudle beach
One doesn’t have to travel the inner alleys of Gokarna to reach Om Beach, a diversion is well defined to reach Om Beach.
Accommodation
There are many cafés available at Om Beach but none of them take advanced booking during Christmas and New Year. One would have to reach there and look for accommodation.
There are options to stay at Kudle beach as well which is at a reachable distance from Om Beach. The hotel Gokarna International is a luxury accommodation bang on the beach.
There are other place to stay in the town of Gokarna town as well.
Eating
Try wood oven pizza served on Plantain leaf at Rock Namaste Café on Kudle beach.
Also try some local delicacies at Jazzmin café and bakery items from German Bakery.
There are quite a few Kamat restaurants available at Honnavara and Kumta which can provide eating options before reaching Gokarna
Jog falls
Accommodation
There are multiple guest houses available near the waterfalls.
The closest is Sharavathi Nature Camp run by the forest department. They claim its on top of the water fall however its just few meters away from the main entrance to the water fall.
There is another forest department guest house which has to be booked from Siddapura. This is located on top of the water fall.
Other places near Jog falls:
One can visit an old fort at Keladi from Jog falls.
Honnemardu is also at a drivable distance from Jog however the road condition is not favourable.
